Flavour Profile

Tasting Notes...

This rare Basque Country white wine is called txakoli on home ground and chacolÌ_ elsewhere in Spain. The DO, which encompasses the growing area in the province of Guipuzcoa (Gipuzkoa), is called Getariako Txakolina in Basque. In Getaria, txakoli is poured into characteristic flat-bottomed tumblers from a height and then drunk before it loses its sparkling edge, known as tximparta in Basque. The Chueca family has been making wine for five generations and are renowned for the quality and subtley of their wines. They are further recognised for their efforts in growing and vinifying the rare black grape Hondarrabi Beltza. The clear and fresh lemony appearance is underlined by green reflections. The aroma is very delicate and of fruity character with tenous tropical hints and white flowers. The crispness and delicious fruity notes combine with a very slight perceived 'salty' tang to make this wine a delight to be enjoyed!

Our Alternative Wines

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Notes...

There is no doubt that this beautifully balanced and aromatic wine lives up to its reputation with an intensely flavoured, distinctive varietal character.

An ideal alternative for Sancerre and Pouilly FumÌ© fans, this wine gives a little more in bouquet and palate. The pale, straw-coloured Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc glints with green, and is enticingly fragrant with lifted elderflower notes, tropical aromas of ripe peach, passion fruit, mango and citrus with hints of fennel and a touch of Pastis. The palate is ripe, fine and succulent, offering zesty ripe citrus flavours coupled with an edge of minerality and sweet herbs. A small barrel ferment component gives balancing flesh to the wine‰Ûªs crisp refreshing acidity
